The New Jetpack on the Block
Like many hardcore jetpack enthusiasts, Englishman Richard Brown has devoted several years and countless
hours to building his own personal flying machine. It looks like the hard work is beginning to really pay off. Earlier this month Brown began testing on a safety rig his jetpack, which he says is inspired by the Bell Jet Belt of the 1960s. Brown calls that granddaddy of aerodynamic engineering “awe inspiring,” and based on some of the pictures on his site, what he’s come up with looks similar in design to the Bell Belt.
Brown has gone through a few iterations of turbine fan-based designs and feels that the latest model could be the winner. He notes: “An operational jetpack is for me the Holy Grail, but I know I’m not alone …” To which I can add with gusto: Ain’t that the truth.

Sky Captain & the World of Today
I’ve joined the ever expanding bloggy universe over at the Huffington Post—my first item is about that Swiss dude who flew over the English Channel last week. Well done, Yves Rossy!
